Uffoh Emmanuel O.’s book delivers what the title promises. Each of his 21 chapters teaches a different principle of success, including: having a vision, overcoming excuses, investing time, correcting attitude problems, promoting other people’s success, and managing finances wisely.

The author, who is a pastor, adds a Christian perspective to his book with biblical references. These are not the main focus of the book, but flow naturally into the chapters and support the concepts. For example, Chapter Eight, “Look Away from Your Past,” teaches that winners don’t dwell in the past, and quotes Philippians 3:13-14 KJV (“…forgetting those things which are behind…I press towards the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”).

This book is well organized, with chapter premises stated within the first paragraph and bulleted or numbered lists and subheadings often used to visually draw the reader to the most important information. Chapter Two, “Be a Person with a Positive Mindset,” begins with the premise, “The mentality of a man is the driver to his destiny.” Three factors are listed for success: hearing, thinking, and acting. The chapter contends that “what you hear determines what you think, what you think determines how you behave, and how you behave determines what you eventually become.”

Nonstandard wording and errors in grammar (“Some few years ago, I happen to meet …”) are scattered throughout and may be distracting. Yet, the book’s conversational tone and valuable information will likely appeal to persons seeking general advice to improve their lives. The author’s final words to readers sum up the book’s value: “to give hope to the hopeless, courage and sense of direction to the discouraged…No man is a failure; failing is a result of not doing things the proper way.”

BlueInk Heads Up: This book may be of particular interest to members of the Redeemed Christian Church of God. The author is a parish pastor (in Orte, Italy) of this denomination, which was founded in Nigeria and has spread to many continents, including North America.
