Fairytale romance melds with action and suspense in Favors Captured.

Jojo, a beautiful and wealthy transplant from Louisiana, is just beginning her new life in New York City, pursuing her lifelong dream as an artist at the prestigious New York Institute of Fine Arts. Her life is about to change in amazing ways: Her artistic talents will be recognized; she will forge new friendships through both wonderful experiences and terrifying events, and perhaps most importantly, she will meet the man who could be the love of her life.

Jojo and Marco’s relationship is an unlikely one. He is ten years older and his dangerous and secretive career as a Navy SEAL has prevented him from putting down any roots, and certainly inhibited any serious relationships. Although they hope for a future together, Marco is still fully engaged in the political and military intrigue that shapes his life, and their chemistry-filled romance plays out in bits in pieces, in the brief periods they are together. In times apart, the author cleverly weaves their alternating stories together, highlighting just how different their lives are, but still maintaining a connection, even when they are thousands of miles apart.

The book struggles with a few spelling and grammar issues and is slow to start. However, once the action begins about a third of the way through, it rarely lets up. When Jojo takes a girls’ trip with her friends to Bermuda, not only does her exciting romance really heat up, but she and her friends encounter a surprising and life-altering twist. As the girls return to New York, Marco and his comrades embark on a harrowing military operation that keeps the pages turning to the last moments and sudden conclusion; clearly there is more of this story to come.

In sum, Favors Captured is an entertaining story. It should appeal to anyone who enjoys romance highlighted with dangerous intrigue.
