A tale of true love and the kind of perfect romance that only exists in books, Beckham 101 continues Kate and Robert’s erotic story, which the author has visited in two other novels. This time around, Suzanne Eglington offers family drama and a few surprise romances that keep the characters—and readers—guessing.

The story begins with an action-packed scene. Against Robert’s orders, Kate has opened the door to their house, only to be greeted by an angry and armed former lover of Robert’s. Ultimately, the situation is diffused, but Kate has a better understanding of Robert’s overprotective and controlling ways. She’s learning to accept and even appreciate his constant attention, even as she’s faced with Robert’s past.

After those first exciting moments, the plot reaches an unfortunate lull until about halfway through. Much of this first section becomes somewhat repetitive, with meals, drinks,  dancing, and trips to the gym and dojo oft-recounted. There are, however, plenty of unique, steamy love scenes, and Eglington never allows the characters’ numerous bedroom encounters to become boring. Creative lovemaking along with the foreshadowing of intense relationship drama between some of the couple’s closest friends serves to keep the story moving somewhat. And a visit from the always-entertaining Ian Miller and his supermodel girlfriend also manages to provide some entertainment.

After an impromptu trip to Vegas leads to a quickie wedding, the pace picks up, and the wedding kicks off a series of events that provide plenty of conflict, raw emotion, and a few laugh-out-loud moments. Throughout everything, Kate and Robert’s relationship remains enviable and solid, and an incredibly romantic Christmas gift from husband to wife tops it off. The final pages once again leave readers guessing, promising more drama in the next installment.

Despite the plot problems in the first half, this is a very sexy read with strong supporting characters.  Beckham 101 is for romance fans who enjoy complicated relationships and strong, hunky, alpha heroes.
