When a single sexy encounter becomes something more, an unlikely couple must negotiate their relationship in this sensual erotic romance.
S. Arthur Zwyx is a successful businessman but can’t help feeling melancholy about his life, routine, and lack of satisfying romantic relationships. His negative opinions of himself and the opposite sex feed into this, but he doesn’t seem to know how to change his predicament.
Then, while on a plane to Hawaii, a trip he won through a call-in radio show, he meets a woman. She’s beautiful but rude, and Art immediately writes her off.
They meet again upon arriving in Hawaii and the tension is palpable; what starts as intense ire quickly turns to sexual attraction. They end up in bed together in the first of many explicit, creative sex scenes.
Apart, Art and Victoria aren’t exactly likeable characters. Wealthy CEO Victoria appears annoyingly selfish and entitled on the surface; both are guarded and sarcastic. Together, though, sparks fly and they make a surprisingly charming pair. Their constant back-and-forth generates heat and keeps the couple interesting. In small ways, they soften each other and slowly build a stronger emotional connection.
The story suffers also from a few flaws: The abovementioned back-and-forth eventually grows tiresome as the couple repeatedly argues, makes up, and has sex. More narrative variation would enhance the reading experience. And while the sex scenes are unique and varied, some might find the author’s use of the term “her sex” as a substitute for “vagina” a bit cringe-worthy.
That said, the story’s strengths generally outweigh such flaws. The writing is engaging and readable, the dialogue mostly genuine, and the author makes excellent use of modern technology. The text messages between the couple are often a highlight of their communications.
Largely sexy and entertaining, Victoria: Worlds Apart is a modern erotic romance that will appeal to adventurous fans of the genre. It ends in a cliffhanger, promising more to come from this enigmatic duo.
