In this fast-paced crime thriller, Roy Vance, a successful Manhattan real estate broker, willingly steps into a life of violence when he meets a woman in a bar.

Roy seems to have it all: success, property, and a loving family. But he feels nothing. He’s a man going through the motions, until the night he meets Michelle in a dive bar in the Bronx. Michelle is a self-described psychopath. She’s has a PhD and works as a guidance counselor, but she also runs an OnlyFans account, reads tarot cards, and walks barefoot almost everywhere she goes. They’re an unlikely, yet compelling, combination.

When Michelle’s controlling boyfriend becomes threatening, she enlists Roy to help her kill him and dispose of his body. Suddenly, Roy can feel things, and the pair begin a murder spree that initially baffles the New York police. But while Michelle believes their lives as the Red Pill Killers—as the media name them—are just beginning, Roy’s thoughts turn toward religion and the possibilities for transforming himself and halting their killing spree.

The Red Pill Confession has an intriguing premise, and the story engages from the first page. New York City is evoked in crisp descriptions, and well-executed dialogue and skillful pacing lend the story momentum. The author builds to a dramatic conclusion and a satisfying resolution of his story.

The novel would benefit from further editing, however. Four different characters points of view are employed, but all use similar language; for example, thinking of life in terms of architecture. And although the novel is short, it contains distracting repetition – notably it’s mentioned nearly 30 times that Roy is 38 years old – and minor errors of continuity; for example, a gun is said to be owned by Roy but also by Rogers, the detective.

Despite these flaws in execution, The Red Pill Confession offers an engaging plot and a thought-provoking story overall.
