In this volume, author Don Mills offers a compelling Bible-based argument for a pre-Tribulation rapture of the Church.

Mills’ book is written for Christians interested in apocalyptic prophecies. It focuses on the Tribulation, a seven-year period of global suffering before Christ returns in glory. Those who believe in a pre-Tribulation rapture, as does Mills, hold that Christian believers will be taken up to heaven en masse before that time. Others believe the rapture will happen during the time of Tribulation or after it.

Using the King James Version of the Bible as his primary text, Mills begins his discussion by presenting the “types” in the Old Testament that foreshadow Christ and His Church, such as Joseph, son of Jacob, Isaac, and Ruth. He also offers significant analysis of the Gospel of John and the Book of Revelation, which John is believed to have authored. The Book of Revelation is largely apocalyptic, and Mills derives much of his evidence from this book, along with the Gospel of John and other scriptures.

The role of the Jewish people in the Apocalypse and the symbolic meaning of the Feast of Tabernacles are also considered. Mills argues that many people confuse the role of the Church and the role of Israel in the Apocalypse. He maintains that the two groups have different promises: The Church will be in heaven, raptured prior to the Tribulation, while the Jews will inhabit the new earth.

Mills’ work presupposes a familiarity with the Bible. For this audience, he makes his argument well, with solid scriptural backing. His writing is clear, and his target audience will find the narrative easy to read. This book would have benefited from additional editing, however, as it contains many distracting punctuation errors throughout.

Still, those who wish to gain a deeper understanding of the scriptural basis of a pre-Tribulation rapture will find this work of value.
