In Grace to Birth Revival, Ric Steininger presents a fervent vision of Christian life rooted in a direct, ongoing encounter with God.

Blending scriptural exegesis, Bible study, and devotional reflection, the book posits that believers can actively participate in initiating “moves of God.” Steininger defines these “moves” as moments when the divine breaks into everyday life to bring about tangible change. Believers access this supernatural reality not through personal striving, but by drawing closer to God through intentional, relational prayer that transforms into ongoing communion.

Moving fluidly between biblical interpretation and personal instruction, Steininger proposes a theology of “perpetual encounter.” He encourages readers to move beyond conventional, transactional prayer and into a sustained awareness—and deep desire—of the divine. “Pray about your needs,” Steininger writes, “but more importantly, pray for encounter.”

At its best, the book grounds its deep theological ideas in concrete imagery. For example, a brief anecdote about fish gathering around the author in a stream—with one drawing closer than the rest—serves as a simple but highly effective metaphor for intimacy with God shaped by proximity and desire rather than human intellect or effort. In such moments, Steininger’s genuine passion for his topic is most clearly expressed.

However, the book’s stylistic intensity can occasionally obscure its message. Long, cascading sentences and repetitive phrasing often slow the reading experience. For instance: “It is that, in Christ Jesus, God desires to step you into a Dominion not seen since the Beginning […] The Dominion over all creation, over all powers above and below; over provision and livelihood, even over the very earth…in the Sovereignty of God.” Careful editing (and less use of the ellipses) could sharpen these ideas and significantly improve readability.

Despite this issue, Steininger offers a compelling message that seeks to reveal how God is actively present in the day-to-day world. Readers drawn to charismatic or mystical Christianity will find its emphasis on spiritual agency and lived encounter inspirational.
