Hippocrates wrote, “A physician without knowledge of Astrology has no right to call himself a physician.” Rio Olesky would wholly agree — and then some. An astrologer for over 30 years, as well as a teacher of the discipline, he professes: “It is a system that enables a person to see who he is and his place in the universal scheme of things.” With this view, Olesky’s comprehensive, remarkably sound and well-written book, leads readers on a journey to discover as he puts it, “the true nature of life.”
The author divides A Manual for the Modern Mystic into the 12 signs of the zodiac and describes the predominant trait behind each sign. For example, in Chapter One, titled “The Law of Creativity,” he refers to the first sign of the zodiac, Aries, and explores this sign’s driving characteristic, which is creativity. For the second chapter, the author explores the second sign, Taurus and its primary trait, “survival,” and so on through the remaining ten signs.
Along with convincing descriptions of the predominant force behind each sign, the author offers illustrative stories, prayers, and affirmations, as well warnings about how we can interfere with a sign’s positive power. In the “Law of Love” for example, which corresponds to the sign Leo, readers are cautioned: “We can limit the flow of love by focusing more on possessions than on Spirit.”
Olesky’s book is not only applicable for those who follow astrological teachings, but it’s relevant to any spiritual seeker who wants to travel a route with concise guideposts along the way. Looking to the stars and planets may be an ancient technique, but with the author’s deft presentation, it’s a thoroughly modern manual.
